My Gmail lets me flag messages with pictures, or conversations from different groups, which helps in finding emails I need. I don't use any other IM service, and love that I can chat with friends and that conversation is saved. I do volunteer PR work for various local nonprofits, and a separate email address lets me track media lists and various press releases that go out (organized by each organization)... And, when I need to send reminders to media, or update the original info I sent, it's almost too easy to find my original email.
