I usually check Gmail on my laptop, but every once in a while I like to download all my email back to my main desktop computer. Since I get a lot of email, and I did this maybe once a month, this usually involved going through 200ish emails, from four different email accounts. (1 Gmail, 2 Google Apps, and 1 from my ISP). I had never used IMAP before, so I decided to give it a try. It worked fantastically. I no longer have to go through 200 emails to make sure I've read all of them when I go back to my desktop. Even better, it saves space by only downloading the emails I need. After my great experience with IMAP, I wanted to use it for my ISP email. But, no such luck; they don't offer it. The free email service from Gmail outperforms the email service I pay for.
