I use Gmail for home security. Ever since my home was burgled some months back, I've become more concerned about securing my home or, at the very least, monitoring my home when I'm not there. Using an old laptop in conjunction with some video capture software and Gmail, I have a system set up which sends emails containing surveillance snapshots of my home to my Gmail account. If the laptop itself is stolen, no problem, Gmail's redundant architecture has given me no issues, and ensures that a copy of whatever motion was detected is in a safe data repository that I can access should another burglar come to call. It's nice enough to be able to take a look at my home from anywhere on the web, but to view live snapshots I've sent to my Gmail account of intruders is even better.
