I recently graduated and got my first job teaching middle school. My new principal, a self-professed "geek," directed me to teach a computer elective focusing on the tools of Web 2.0. I was pretty nervous about it, but after securing permission slips, set my 26 charges to the task of creating their own Google accounts, of which Gmail was an integral part. I can honestly write that Google and Gmail saved my bacon this semester. We've all learned something, and the kids have shown me rich emoticons and multi-person chat in Gmail. I've shown them how to search archives and make notes, and we've all worked with Google Docs and iGoogle. I'm glad you've given us the opportunity to thank you -- with the Gmail, as I like to call it, the kids have learned AND had fun while doing so.
