My friends and I have exchanged over 3500 emails on the same discussion thread. We have measured how busy our lives are from the time it takes for us to reset another thread. Every so often we do a zeitgeist of sorts on past emails exchanged. This Gmail thread as kept us close to each other for the past few years. We have been in different cities, countries, time zones, and in different stages of our lives. Each one of us checks Gmail five times a day just to see if someone else has sent a 'keep alive' even when we don't have time to send one ourselves. I think it would be safe to say that without "The Ongoing Conversation" (name of our conversation thread) we would be just people who once were very good friends.
