My brother is in Iraq with the U.S. Army and talking on the phone is pretty expensive and not very timely seeing as he's halfway across the world. We would try to catch each other using other services, but it was only Gmail Chat that put us in connection with each other in real time. We've been able to exchange travel itineraries and birthday greetings from across the miles thanks to Gmail Chat.
